Trusting your contractor
We know general contractors don’t have the best reputation and we think we know why.
It all boils down to the most common issue with any relationship - communication! Most contractors have been in business for so long that they don’t fully understand how new homeowners are to the entire process. They don’t realize they need to educate their clients on their options, how they will be billed and the quality of work they will be getting for what their paying. Homeowners often don’t know what they don’t know and can be shocked when the end result isn’t what they were expecting.
On top of that, a lot of contractors give clients a bid for all their work. The bid is inflated to make sure the contractor will take home a profit, even if things go wrong. But how inflated is it? What will happen if the contractor starts eating into their profit? Does the quality of work go down? Will they just take off? What if the project comes in way under budget - does the client pay less? Transparency equals trust, so not knowing the answers to these questions lays the groundwork for problems.
At Revival Design & Build, we use clear communication and transparent strategies to avoid these issues. We talk openly about budgets from the very first meeting and we’re honest about how you can make the most of it. We use cost-plus billing which allows our clients to see the true costs of what subcontractors are charging for labor. We strongly believe that the trust we gain through transparency is more valuable than any trade discount, so we always pass those along to our clients. Throughout the project we are in constant communication including in-person meetings, phone calls, texts, emails and a shared spreadsheet. Greg is a very hands-on general contractor and will be on site nearly every day. We respond quickly to every question, send weekly updates on your project status and give plenty of notice about what’s coming next.
We do all of this because we don’t want our clients to feel lost or nervous. We won’t lie to you, a renovation project is stressful, but our team aims to turn it into a good stress - one that lets our clients feel excited and grateful that they are able to fulfill the dreams they’ve worked so hard to achieve.
